Okay so I am on my way to the gym. I have Cambryn and Rigdon with me. I pull out my drive away my tooth starts killing me. So I turn around go in the house brush, floss get a drink take Tylenol and rinse with fluoride ( I am going to the dentist on 9-11 I will let you know the damage then). I get back in the car and Cambryn asks Does your tooth hurt really bad like mine? I say Cambryn does your tooth really hurt. We had missed her dentist apt the previous Friday. Later on in the day that Friday when we both realized i had spaced her apt she said but mom my tooth hurts. I just thought she wanted attention. She has been known to do that.
She tells me Mom I told you me tooth hurt when Kiki was here.
Me- Cambryn you said on Friday your tooth hurt are you sure you just are wanting to go to the dentist
Cambryn- Mom when Kiki was here I said my tooth hurt really really bad you looked in my mouth and said it looked like a cavity
Me- Are you sure?
So I pull over and have her come to the front of the car so I can look in her mouth. Okay she Cambryn totally has a hole in her tooth and a big fat cavity--
I call my sister to confirm Cambryn's story. Because I do not recall this conversation I had with her. I am the kind of mom that takes her kids to Dr for everything. I would rather make sure nothing is wrong then something serious. And I so do not believe Cambryn.
So my sister says yes I remember you talking to Cambryn about a missing part of her tooth and it hurting her and you looking at it. I tell her I totally do not remember. Oh my gosh I am ghetto. And the MOTHER OF THE YEAR AWARD goes to. . .
SO I call the dentist they say bring her in right away. I call Jay and tell him what is going on. So I go to the dentist. It is the first time Cambryn has been to this dentist. The receptionist asks me if I have pre registered online for Cambryn I say no but we should be in the system. I have been there and so has Brayden. She tells me I still have to get a user name and password and fill out her medical history. They have a comp in the waiting room.
Clearly this lady has never tried to confine a one year old on her lap with all these fabulous and enticing buttons it front of him. So Rigdon is squealing and screaming. I hear a patient at the counter talking to the receptionist in a not so quiet voice. i can't hear you over all this noise. scream and cry. yeah me!
Then Rigdon gets a good swing at the keyboard and erases the last 10 min of work I did on my online registration---that I could have done online weeks ago when I had originally made the appointments for Cambryn and Brayden if they had told me. Or if they had even told Jay the previous week when he took Brayden.
So I am lovin' it right now. I call Jay and ask him if there is any way at all he can come get Rigdon. He says no. I finish up on the computer. I decided I should probably start calling people to see if someone can come get Rigdon. Since he thinks running out of the waiting room into the hall is the funniest thing ever and sitting on my lap eating or playing is when he gets to
I called a couple of people but no one answered. I then call wonderful Sandee and came right over with no hesitation and took Rigdon for me. Halleluja Halleluja What a blessing that was. I was then able to sit with Cambryn.
By this time Cambryn had seen the Dr and he had looked at her X-Rays. He had informed me that Cambryn needed a root canal. Say What?? How is that possible? he tells me it is probably from her diet. If you eat to many sweets and carbs your teeth rot out of your head--- he didn't use those exact words. Once again I am feeling like a fabulous Mother. He asks me does she eat a lot of carbs and sweets-- Is he serious? Don't kids eat carbs all day long. . . I am feeling like I need to defend myself. I said well that isn't ALL she eats.
So here is my brave little girl getting her first root canal. She didn't cry at all when they gave her the Novocain shot. She did get a little teary eyed but did so good.
On the way home we had a big discussion about sweets and carbs. What Carbs are. What sweets are. She is extremely inquisitive. We should probably try to eat less sweets. She then tells me she is hungry it is way past lunch and she hasn't eaten all day long. The Dentist told me she couldn't eat for a couple of hours. I suggest we go get a yummy smoothie. I know it is still a sweet but it is loaded with fruit.
Cambryn-- Mom can I have a shake or is that considered a sweet? It is isn't it?
Me - yes Cambryn it is a sweet and you probably shouldn't have it.
Cambryn- Mom what about just a Vanilla shake? It is plain and doesn't have any thing in it so it isn't a sweet.
hmmm-I think we might have to go over the sweet and carb thing again

This is my WORST nightmare. My little Cracker has been complaining about a tooth being a little sore sometimes. I have a dentist appnt in a couple of weeks and I see no cavity but I'm askeered!!
ps. why is that dentist so stupid about what kids eat? fer super duh
OUch! Poor baby! Poor you for dealing with Rigdon too. That sounds like a nightmare! I honestly had NO idea carbs caused tooth decay. Now I'm going to be extra viligant about what my own kids eat!
Well, I think 99% of kids in America eat lots of carbs and sugar, so don't feel guilty about that! Some kids seem more prone to cavaties than others. But still, poor Cambryn!
you have the best stories and I am on the edge of my seat to see the outcome.but i am sorry it had to end this way, root canals are the worst, I think she is braver than I would be
What a brave girl! Don't worry, we've all been in the same boat! Kaylee had half her tooth decayed away and the dentist asked me if I hadn't noticed that half her tooth was missing. In my defense, she ended up having no enamel on her teeth!
Poor girl! Poor Cyndi! I'm glad it is over for the both of you and that you survived!
I know about feeling like a "bad mom" I just took Sam in Wed. to get FIVE cavities filled, he's only four! The dentist said that he needs to floss better, um, I didn't know kids flossed at all! Did you go to the dentist my Jamba Juice and In-N-Out in Stockdale? That's where we go and I HATE their computers in the waiting room, that's all my kids want to play with, not with the video games!
um, yeah. my 7 year old has a silver tooth. Totally same story.
Our dentist said just to completely not give the kids fruit snacks or chips. Uh...ya what? So like, I have to actually pay attention to their intake? No more mindless appeasing of the whiny snack Gods.
